This year some Year 5 and 6 children have been working hard on a variety of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and maths) projects at Overton Grange. Miss Banda always talks about the incredible passion and innovation that this team has.
A select few achieved such a high standard that it meant they could go to the Big Bang Fair. These children spent an entire day presenting their ideas and achievements at Sutton Grammar. What an incredible achievement, well done!
British Science Week, run by the British Science Association, is a ten-day celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths. Due to an extremely busy Spring term, we made the decision to move our celebrations of British Science Week (9-18thMarch 2018) into the Summer term.
This year’s activities were themed around ‘exploration and discovery’. They aimed to give the children an easy, hands-on way to get involved in science for the day. Activities included making bubbles, fizzy colours, astronaut skills, capture-mark-recapture experiments, ice escape and so much more!
From the children…
“It was the best day ever!”
“I wish every lesson was like that.”
“I wonder if I’ll discover something that changes the world one day.”
“I did the experiment at home to show my brother.”
From the teachers…
“It was amazing to see every single child getting involved.”
“Some of the ideas the children came up with even got me thinking!”
“It got everyone talking, even those you’d least expect. The children loved it.”
