STEMinions compete in the NPL Water Rocket Challenge 2017!

Last week, five awesome scientists from Avenue Primary (Hashim, Josh, Shaarminy, Shareena and Zack) , joined forces with children from Devonshire Primary and staff from Overton grange. They embarked on a mission at the National Physical Laboratory in Teddington and launched many rockets to claim some of the 25 awards presented!

The competition was fierce, with teams from many secondary schools and a handful of primary schools: Coloma, Ricards Lodge, Tiffin, Abbots Hill, Sacred Heart, St Johns, Broadwater, Oathall and Gumley House were just some of the schools in attendance.

Luckily, the STEMinions managed to bag three awards, including ‘best banner’, ‘least damaged egg when fired on a rocket’ and a very original award of ‘best sun protection’! The children from both teams worked incredibly well together and represented their schools fantastically!

To sum up this amazing day, the children thoroughly enjoyed it and wish they could participate again. Thank you to Miss Banda and Mr Thomas from Overton, for inviting us to this great event – we will be back!
